Physician - Pathologist

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Pathologist for a 7-day assignment in Illinois, starting Sep 14, 2026. This role involves weekday shifts from 8 AM to 5 PM, including night call coverage. The Pathologist will be responsible for reviewing and signing out pathology cases, performing grossing with histotech assistance, providing clinician support, and addressing various blood bank issues and cellular adequacy checks.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Sign-Out of Pathology Cases: Review and sign out pathology cases, ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses.
• Grossing: Perform grossing on surgical specimens with assistance from two histotechs who will assist with grossing small biopsies, preparing slides, and conducting special stains.
• Clinician Support: Answer phone calls from clinicians regarding pathology-related questions and concerns.
• Peripheral Blood Smear: Review and interpret peripheral blood smears as needed.
• Blood Bank Issues: Address blood bank issues, including transfusion reactions and comments related to blood transfusions.
• Cellular Adequacy Checks: Perform cellular adequacy checks for Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and CT-guided biopsies.
• Night Call: Be available for night call coverage and respond to urgent cases as needed.
