Our client in California is actively seeking a dedicated Psychologist for a 135-day assignment starting Jul 20, 2026. This role involves comprehensive psychological screenings, assessments, and treatment planning for inmates, along with providing mental health treatment and crisis intervention. The schedule is a consistent 1st shift, 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week, requiring collaboration with a multidisciplinary clinical team to ensure integrated patient care.
Responsibilities and Duties
Conduct psychological screenings and assessments based on review of available records and clinical interviews with inmates.
Confer with other clinical staff, including psychiatrists, mental health service providers, physicians, nurses, and social workers, to gather and provide information concerning patient psychological problems, ensuring integrated treatment activities and patient care follow-through.
Provide treatment to inmates by developing, implementing, and modifying individual treatment plans based on evaluation of needs and level of functioning.
Make regular rounds in segregation or other confined housing areas to assess inmate adjustment and mental health treatment needs.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of psychological counseling theory and techniques through treatments and activities used for individuals in caseload.
Provide appropriate mental health assessments, counseling, and confrontation avoidance interventions to address the needs of inmates in crisis.
Consult with psychiatry, mental health, nursing, medical, educational, chaplain, security staff, and others as applicable, to gather information and understanding into the reasons for escalating problem behaviors and changes in mental health condition of inmates.
