We are seeking a Neurology Physician Assistant for a 10-day locum tenens assignment in New York, beginning Jan 2, 2026. This hospital-based role supports a stroke center, with a flexible schedule of 12-hour day and night shifts based on patient and client needs. Candidates must be comfortable managing acute neurological emergencies and working collaboratively in a dynamic setting.

  • Schedule: Two providers for 7a-7p and two providers for 7p-7a; schedule may include a mix of day and night 12-hour shifts based on coverage needs. Flexibility is required.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Manage stroke patients and respond to stroke codes
  • Provide care for acute neurological emergencies
  • Administer IV medications
  • Enter admission orders under supervising attending
  • Advance care planning, including advance directives and health care proxy documentation
  • Apply skin tests (e.g., PPD)
  • Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) determinations and arterial punctures
  • Obtain blood cultures and perform phlebotomy
  • Change surgical and non-surgical dressings
  • Remove central venous pressure lines and drains
  • Draw blood and conduct venipuncture
  • Perform and interpret EKGs
  • Insert and replace feeding tubes and Foley catheters
  • Initiate consultation requests, CPR, and assist in codes
  • Initiate intravenous infusions and insert venous lines
  • Manage medication drips and handle medication ordering, renewal, and reconciliation
  • Monitor vital signs
  • Insert, interpret via X-ray, replace, and remove nasogastric tubes
  • Obtain patient consent and order imaging studies (CT, MRI, carotid, ECHO, etc.)
  • Order routine laboratory work
  • Manage pain and participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary rounds
  • Conduct history and physicals, pre-operative assessments, and provide pre- and post-operative instructions
  • Educate patients
  • Insert and remove staples and sutures (wound closure)
  • Write daily progress notes, discharge orders, and summaries
  • Interpret head CT, MRI brain, MRA head, CTA head and neck
  • Assess eligibility for thrombolytic therapy and administer Tenecteplase (TNK) as appropriate
  • Perform bedside swallowing screens
  • Conduct cancer risk assessments for the general population
