Job Description

 We are seeking two skilled Physician Assistants specializing in Hospitalist care for a 10-day locum tenens assignment in New York. This opportunity, starting on 01/02/2026, involves working 12-hour shifts with one position covering 7a-7p and another covering 7p-7a at a hospital. The ideal candidates will be comfortable managing a wide range of inpatient medical issues, including cardiac arrests, substance overdoses, and ventilator care. Flexibility in shift scheduling is essential, as assignments may change based on patient and facility needs. The role encompasses comprehensive patient assessments, complex medical management, procedural skills, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage inpatient medical issues, including cardiac arrests, substance overdoses, and drowning/submersion injuries
  • Perform procedures such as incision & drainage, wound care, and foreign body removal
  • Administer IV medications and manage medication drips, including pressors and cardiac drips
  • Interpret EKGs and cardiac monitoring strips
  • Manage ventilators, tracheostomy care, and other respiratory interventions
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Perform history and physical examinations for new admissions
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including imaging studies and laboratory work
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and initiate specialist consultations as needed
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Manage pain and other symptoms
  • Perform various medical procedures, including central line removal and feeding tube insertion
  • Participate in code situations and assist with CPR
  • Document patient care, including daily progress notes and discharge summaries
  • Ensure medication reconciliation and appropriate prescribing
  • Utilize Allscripts electronic health record system


Additional Information:

  • New York state license required
  • Flexibility in shift scheduling is crucial
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) preferred
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting cardiac strips
  • Familiarity with tracheostomy and ventilator management
