 We are seeking two skilled Physician Assistants specializing in Emergency Medicine for a 10-day locum tenens assignment in New York. This opportunity, starting on 01/02/2026, involves working 12-hour shifts (7a-7p) with a mix of days and nights at a hospital. The ideal candidates will be comfortable managing a wide range of emergency cases, including traumas, soft tissue injuries, and burns of varying severity. Flexibility in shift scheduling is essential, as assignments may change based on patient and facility needs. The role encompasses comprehensive patient assessments, complex symptom management, care coordination, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage single or multiple traumas to head, chest, abdomen, and spinal cord (blunt or penetrating)
  • Treat soft tissue injuries including ocular trauma, fractures, dislocations, and lacerations
  • Provide care for burns ranging from minor to severe
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments for patients with advanced, chronic, or complex illnesses
  • Perform focused history and physical exams
  • Manage complex symptom control, including pain, dyspnea, nausea, and fatigue
  • Optimize medication management for various chronic diseases
  • Coordinate care plans and facilitate transitions between care settings
  • Develop individualized care plans aligned with patient goals and preferences
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Provide patient and family education regarding disease progression and treatment options
  • Offer counseling and support for end-of-life decision-making
  • Engage in shared decision-making and advance care planning discussions
  • Document assessments, care plans, and patient/family discussions in the EMR
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, regulatory, and ethical standards
  • Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives
