We are seeking a Neurology Nurse Practitioner for a 10-day locum tenens assignment in New York, starting Jan 2, 2026. This position is based at a Stroke Center and involves a flexible schedule of 12-hour day and night shifts. Schedule: 12-hour shifts with a mix of days (7a-7p) and nights (7p-7a); providers may be reassigned based on coverage needs and must demonstrate flexibility
Responsibilities and Duties
Manage stroke patients and respond to stroke codes
Administer IV medications and manage medication drips
Write admission and discharge orders under attending supervision
Perform advance care planning and obtain consent
Conduct arterial blood gas determination and arterial punctures for ABG
Draw blood, perform phlebotomy, and venipuncture
Insert and replace feeding and nasogastric tubes
Insert Foley catheters and venous lines; remove drains and central venous pressure devices
Change surgical and non-surgical dressings; staple and suture insertion/removal
Perform and interpret EKGs
Order and interpret imaging studies (CT, MRI, MRA, CTA, Carotid, ECHO)
Order and reconcile medications and laboratory work
Monitor vital signs; initiate CPR and assist in code situations
Initiate consultation requests and participate in interdisciplinary rounds
Provide patient education and perform bedside swallowing screening
Complete pre-operative assessments and instructions
Interpret head CT, MRI brain, MRA head, CTA head and neck
Assess eligibility for thrombolytic therapy; administer Tenecteplase (TNK)
Perform relevant cancer risk assessments for the general population
Write daily progress notes and discharge summaries
Additional Information
Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in New York
Flexibility is required for scheduling and shift assignments
Experience managing acute neurological emergencies is essential
Board certification is not required for this assignment
