Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage all aspects of the emergency department during assigned shifts
  • Oversee patient admissions directly from the emergency department, including order panel management for inpatient care
  • Supervise inpatient admissions until handoff, with support from tele-hospitalist and tele-specialist teams
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to facilitate patient care transitions
  • Stabilize obstetric patients presenting to the emergency department for transport to labor and delivery
  • Participate in attending physician handoff and update on inpatient census at shift change


Additional Information

  • Iowa medical license required
  • Experience in hospitalist, acute care, and emergency medicine is highly valued
  • Familiarity with Cerner EMR is preferred
  • Ongoing, sporadic coverage needs, primarily during Friday-Monday stretches
