Physician - Emergency Medicine

Job Description

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Medicine physician for a 7-day locum tenens assignment in Iowa, starting Jan 24, 2026. This position features 24-hour shifts in an ED/IP hybrid program, where the physician will serve as the sole provider and manage a range of acute and inpatient cases.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Serve as the sole provider in the Emergency Department and inpatient setting, managing all aspects of care
• Perform all necessary procedures in both ED and inpatient environments
• Conduct daily rounds beginning at 8 am with an interdisciplinary team, including a social worker/case manager, pharmacist, and nursing staff
• Complete weekly swing bed rounding to facilitate patient transitions of care
• Treat a variety of cases including congestive heart failure, cellulitis, COPD, and gastroenterological conditions
• Manage an average daily census of 4-6 on the medical floor and 6-8 ED encounters per day
• Oversee acute beds and swing beds as needed

Additional Information

• Must hold a valid Iowa medical license
• Board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine required
• Minimum 2 years of experience practicing autonomously in both ED and inpatient settings
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform all relevant procedures
• Comfortable working as the sole provider during 24-hour shifts
