Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant for a 60-day locum tenens assignment in Michigan, starting Feb 2, 2026. This opportunity features 11a-11p shifts with a single advanced practice provider shift daily and offers exposure to a high-volume Level 3 emergency department. Candidates must have at least two years of recent emergency department experience and be prepared for a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide patient care in a high-volume emergency department with an annual ER volume of 40,150
  • Manage cases across all acuity levels, utilizing a fast-track system for lower acuity patients
  • Participate in admission process: 60 percent of hospital admissions are received from the ED, with 20 percent of ED patients admitted daily
  • Coordinate with IM and surgical residents for admission orders; admitters input orders upon bed request
  • Follow established protocols for pediatric and trauma transfers
  • Ensure patients requiring labor and delivery are sent directly to the appropriate department
  • Work collaboratively with attending physicians, residents, and hospital staff
  • Adhere to hospital procedures and maintain high standards of clinical care


Additional Information

  • Board certification as a Physician Assistant in Emergency Medicine required
  • Michigan license required at time of credentialing; IMLC not accepted
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications required
  • DEA certification required
  • Minimum two years of recent emergency department experience required
  • Clean background for expedited credentialing required
  • Copy of NPDB self-query required at time of presentation (pulled within 30 days)
  • Must be local; remote or non-local candidates will not be considered
