We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner for a 7-day locum tenens assignment in Iowa, starting Jan 24, 2026. This opportunity features 24-hour shifts in an ED/IP hybrid program, with the Nurse Practitioner serving as the sole provider and managing both emergency and inpatient cases.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as the sole provider for emergency department and inpatient settings
  • Perform all required procedures in both ED and inpatient units
  • Conduct daily rounding at 8 am with a multidisciplinary team including a social worker/case manager, pharmacist, and nursing staff
  • Manage acute beds and swing beds
  • Oversee patient transitions of care during weekly swing bed rounding
  • Care for a range of cases including congestive heart failure, cellulitis, COPD, and gastrointestinal conditions
  • Admit and round on patients as required
  • Provide night call coverage as part of the 24-hour shift model


Additional Information

  • Must hold an active Iowa license and be board certified in Emergency Medicine
  • Minimum 2 years of experience practicing autonomously
  • Ability to perform all necessary procedures in ED and inpatient settings
  • Comfortable working as the sole provider in a critical access hospital environment
