Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care, including executing physician orders and administering medications
  • Perform examinations and treatment of patients, including a variety of procedures and treatments
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess clinical problems and healthcare needs
  • Record physical findings, formulate prognosis, and discuss cases with physicians and other health professionals to prepare patient care plans
  • Recommend drugs and other treatments within the scope of licensure
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and ensure early release when appropriate
  • Verify cleanliness of equipment and work area, both directly and through supervision
  • Assist in monitoring the provision of all required contractual services
  • Maintain strong working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
  • Utilize established corporate, facility, and correctional policies and exercise independent judgment as needed
  • Evaluate the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of all medical records and ensure documentation of all services provided
  • Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses and recommend methods to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health services
  • Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with all applicable pharmacy laws
  • Observe and record inmate or resident behavior
  • Accept on-call status as required
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
  • Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures and legal documents
  • Review, process, and respond to lawsuits via corporate counsel and attend court hearings as necessary
  • Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the public, exercising tact and good judgment
  • Attend staff meetings and promote effective communication in the medical unit
  • Participate in multidisciplinary committee meetings to promote and monitor healthcare quality
  • Engage in functions in confined areas, including working rotating shifts and performing physical security checks
  • Evaluate and recommend safety requirements for a secure work environment


Additional Information

  • Must have at least 1 year of advanced practice provider experience
  • US Citizenship required for ICE clearance; expedited clearance available for new activation
