Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Dentist for a 120-day locum tenens assignment in Georgia, starting Nov 3, 2025. This opportunity features weekday 8-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, providing comprehensive dental care to a correctional population. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills and familiarity with correctional facility protocols.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform routine dental treatments, including examinations, x-rays, fillings, extractions, cleanings, dentures, and root canals as appropriate
  • Diagnose and develop dental treatment plans for inmates or residents
  • Develop, coordinate, and supervise the facility dental program, including patient education on dental disease prevention
  • Recruit, schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate subordinate staff
  • Consult with healthcare staff and coordinate specialized or emergency dental care as needed
  • Control and inventory medications, syringes, dental instruments, and other dental supplies or equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness and enforce infection control standards in the dental work area
  • Prepare and maintain dental files and required reports, logs, and records
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of all dental records, and routinely audit documentation
  • Monitor contract services and coordinate with external dental providers as needed
  • Process and review requests for dental records in accordance with policy
  • Provide input for facility dental budget requests and assist with dental billing reviews
  • Recommend and evaluate methods for operational efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and supervise compliance with pharmacy laws
  • Observe and document inmate or resident behavior
  • Maintain and order equipment and supplies, ensuring secure storage or disposal
  • Monitor and evaluate safety for patients and staff, and prepare required safety and accident reports
  • Accept on-call status and respond to incidents and emergencies as required
  • Communicate effectively with all facility stakeholders, including administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the public
  • Review and respond to legal inquiries and attend court hearings as necessary


Additional Information

  • Must be licensed to practice dentistry in Georgia
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correctional custody methods and facility standards required
  • At least one year of dental experience preferred
  • Social security card required for facility clearance; fingerprinting conducted on first day
