We are seeking a board-eligible or board-certified Psychiatrist for a 125-day locum tenens assignment in California, starting Nov 24, 2025. This opportunity offers day shifts, Monday through Friday, providing comprehensive mental health care within a correctional facility setting. The assignment involves direct clinical care, supervision of mental health staff, and participation in civil commitment proceedings.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Report to assigned facility at designated hour to provide direct patient care and associated clinical duties
  • Participate in civil commitment proceedings
  • Assess and provide DSM diagnosis as appropriate
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications
  • Deliver professional services including counseling and ordering necessary lab work
  • Supervise and provide mentorship to facility-based mental health staff
  • Collect and maintain statistics and data, prepare reports on mental health services
  • Recommend methods for improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Accept on-call status as needed
  • Provide direct casework services and counseling to inmates/residents and their families
  • Assist in developing and implementing therapeutic programs for assigned inmates/residents
  • Prepare progress reports and recommendations regarding discharge plans
  • Serve as mental health staff liaison for group counseling and related activities
  • Assist in supervision of inmates/residents within the facility and during community activities
  • Maintain and monitor confidentiality of records, audit files to ensure all services are documented
  • Assist in coordinating services provided by contract personnel
  • Prepare and maintain various operational records and reports
  • Attend staff meetings and group activities essential for effective service delivery
  • Utilize established corporate, facility, and correctional policies; exercise independent judgment as needed
  • Review, process, and respond to lawsuits; attend court hearings as necessary

Additional Information
  • Active California medical license required
  • US Citizenship required for ICE clearance; expedited clearance process in place
