Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide direct patient care and clinical duties at the assigned facility
  • Participate in civil commitment proceedings
  • Assess and provide DSM diagnoses as appropriate
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications
  • Deliver a range of professional services including counseling, disease process management, ordering lab work, and reviewing results
  • Supervise and mentor other facility-based mental health staff
  • Assess the needs of mental health services, maintain statistics, and prepare reports related to mental health care
  • Recommend and implement improvements for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness in mental health services
  • Accept on-call status as needed
  • Offer direct casework services and individual, group, and family counseling to inmates/residents and their families
  • Assist in developing and implementing treatment and therapeutic programs for inmates/residents
  • Prepare progress reports, discharge recommendations, and case presentations
  • Support administrative and medical staff with statistical reporting
  • Serve as liaison for group counseling, volunteer activities, and events promoting mental health services
  • Supervise inmates/residents within the facility and during community activities; promote positive community relations and utilize community services as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of inmates/residents and audit files to confirm documented services
  • Coordinate professional services provided by contract personnel if applicable
  • Prepare and maintain various records and reports, ensuring proper documentation and timely processing
  • Attend staff and group meetings essential for effective program delivery and communication
  • Apply established corporate, facility, and correctional policies while performing duties with professional independence and sound judgment
  • Review, process, and respond to lawsuits via corporate counsel; attend court hearings as needed


Additional Information

  • Must hold a current Arizona state license as a Nurse Practitioner
  • US citizenship is required for facility clearance
  • Experience in correctional or forensic psychiatry preferred
