Responsibilities and Duties
Review and sign out pathology cases, ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses
Perform grossing on surgical specimens with assistance from histotechs for small biopsies, slide preparation, and special stains
Answer phone calls from clinicians regarding pathology-related questions and concerns
Review and interpret peripheral blood smears as needed
Address blood bank issues, including transfusion reactions and related comments
Perform cellular adequacy checks for Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and CT-guided biopsies
Provide night call coverage and respond to urgent cases as required
Additional Information
Board Certification in Pathology required
Strong experience in grossing, cytology, and general pathology case review essential
Must hold an active Illinois medical license
Ability to work independently and efficiently manage a caseload
Excellent communication skills for clinician interaction
Experience with Cerner EMR system preferred
