Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Family Practice Physician for a 115-day locum tenens assignment in Tennessee starting Nov 24, 2025. This role features 8-hour day shifts, five days per week, providing comprehensive medical care within a correctional facility setting.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide a range of professional medical services to inmates and residents, including examinations, diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications, and follow-up care
  • Deliver leadership and direction for the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor
  • Monitor and review operations and standards of care delivered to inmates or residents
  • Conduct interviews for admissions and make associated decisions
  • Make clinical rounds and participate in treatment team meetings to devise, review, and modify individual health plans
  • Direct unit treatment operations and perform minor, and occasionally major, surgeries as necessary
  • Hold clinics for nursing specialists regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions
  • Maintain effective working relationships with facility staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
  • Utilize established policies and independent judgment in fulfilling responsibilities
  • Assist in developing facility medical policies and motivate staff to maintain compliance
  • Regularly evaluate all medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early release as clinically appropriate
  • Closely oversee cases with potential catastrophic illnesses
  • Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and logs; review and process staff documentation
  • Ensure absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; audit files for documentation
  • Recommend methods for improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health services
  • Foster relationships with outside hospital and agency administrators
  • Facilitate accreditation processes as required, ensuring organizational efficiency and appropriate services
  • Accept on-call status and attend required seminars, workshops, and conferences
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
  • Communicate responsibilities and expectations to direct subordinates
  • Conduct staff meetings and promote effective communication between administration, staff, and inmates or residents


Additional Information

  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee
