Schedule: 8-hour days, 5x per week (Monday to Friday), 40 hours per week
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide a range of professional medical services, including examinations, diagnosis, prescribing medications, and treatment follow-up
Deliver leadership and direction for the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor
Monitor and review standards of care delivered to inmates and residents
Interview inmates and residents for admissions decisions
Conduct clinical rounds and participate in treatment team meetings for individual health plans
Direct unit treatment operations and perform minor or occasional major surgeries as needed
Hold clinics for nursing specialists, making diagnoses, determining treatments, and providing prescriptions and protocols
Foster strong working relationships with facility and nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
Apply corporate, facility, and correctional policies, using sound independent judgment in medical responsibilities
Assist in developing facility policy for medical services
Motivate and encourage staff for policy adherence and effective performance
Evaluate and improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health services
Regularly audit medical files and ensure timely processing of documentation
Monitor inpatient hospitalizations, facilitate early release when clinically appropriate, and oversee potential catastrophic illnesses
Prepare and maintain operational records, reports, and logs
Work with outside hospital administrators to coordinate care
Facilitate accreditation processes as applicable (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO)
Maintain on-call status as required
Attend relevant seminars, workshops, and conferences
Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis
Ensure clear communication of responsibilities and accountability to subordinates
Additional Information
Must hold a valid Arizona medical license
US citizenship required with physical social security card and driver’s license for onboarding
