Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide a range of professional medical services, including examinations, diagnoses, prescribing medications, and follow-up care for inmates and residents
  • Lead and collaborate with the Health Services Supervisor to direct the medical program
  • Monitor and review clinical operations and standards of care
  • Interview patients for admissions decisions
  • Conduct clinical rounds and participate in treatment team meetings to develop and review individual health plans
  • Direct unit treatment operations and perform minor and occasional major surgeries as needed
  • Hold clinics to support nursing specialists in diagnosis and treatment
  • Maintain effective relationships with facility staff and external provider agencies
  • Apply corporate and facility policies while exercising independent medical judgment
  • Contribute to the development of facility medical policies
  • Motivate staff to perform duties in line with policies and procedures
  • Regularly evaluate medical services to ensure efficiency and prevent duplication
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and coordinate early release when clinically appropriate
  • Closely oversee cases of potential catastrophic illness
  • Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, and operational records and reports
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of medical records
  • Audit medical files for proper documentation of services provided
  • Recommend improvements for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health services
  • Foster strong relationships with outside hospital and agency administrators
  • Support accreditation efforts (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) as applicable
  • Participate in on-call rotation and attend required seminars, workshops, and conferences
  • Provide health counseling and education on both individual and group bases
  • Clearly communicate responsibilities and accountability to direct subordinates


Additional Information

  • Must hold a valid Arizona medical license
  • US Citizenship required for facility clearance
  • Facility clearance process takes approximately 3 weeks
