Job Description

We are seeking a Family Practice Physician for an 80-day locum tenens assignment in Arizona, beginning Dec 1, 2025. This role offers a Monday through Friday schedule with 8-hour day shifts. The physician will provide comprehensive medical services to inmates and residents, collaborating with healthcare teams to deliver high-quality care in a correctional facility setting.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide a range of professional medical services, including examinations, diagnoses, prescribing medications, and follow-up care for inmates and residents
  • Collaborate with the Health Services Supervisor to provide direction and leadership for the medical program
  • Monitor and review standards of care and operational practices delivered to inmates and residents
  • Conduct admissions interviews, make clinical rounds, and participate in treatment team meetings to devise, review, and alter individual health plans
  • Oversee unit treatment operations and provide guidance to nursing specialists in diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing protocols
  • Perform minor and occasional major surgeries as necessary
  • Maintain effective working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
  • Utilize established policies and procedures while exercising independent judgment in decision-making
  • Assist in the development of facility medical policies and motivate staff adherence to protocols
  • Regularly evaluate all medical services for efficiency and to prevent unnecessary duplication
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early releases when clinically appropriate
  • Closely track potential catastrophic illnesses
  • Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and logs; audit medical files for documentation completeness
  • Evaluate and recommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health services
  • Meet with outside hospital and agency administrators to ensure close working relationships
  • Support facility accreditation processes where applicable
  • Maintain on-call status as required
  • Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences as needed
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
  • Clearly communicate responsibilities, authorities, and accountability to direct subordinates
