Job Description

We are seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgeon for a locum tenens assignment in Virginia starting Apr 16, 2026. This opportunity features a 24-hour call schedule (7a-7a) and will involve managing a wide range of advanced thoracic and cardiothoracic surgical cases. The ideal candidate will be board certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery and experienced with both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform bronchoscopic procedures including navigational bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
  • Conduct robot-assisted thoracic surgery and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)
  • Manage tube thoracostomy, tracheostomy, pericardial window, thoracic aortic aneurysms, and mediastinoscopy
  • Execute segmentectomy, lobectomy, bilobectomy, pneumonectomy, thoracotomy, and decortication
  • Treat complex thoracic and pulmonary conditions such as achalasia, advanced lung disease (COPD and pulmonary fibrosis), anti-reflux surgery/GERD, Barrett’s esophagitis, chest wall tumors, diaphragm plication, diaphragmatic hernias, dysphagia, esophageal cancer, lung cancer, lung nodules, mediastinal masses, mesothelioma, pleural effusion, pneumothorax, rib fractures and plating, thoracic outlet syndrome, thymomas, tracheal stenosis, and tracheostomy


Additional Information

  • Active Virginia medical license required
  • Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications required
