Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a locum tenens assignment in Washington state. This opportunity begins on Mar 23, 2026, and spans 120 days, with a schedule primarily Monday through Friday, 0700-1500, plus call every 6th night and weekend. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery experience and be comfortable with a variety of operative, preoperative, and postoperative responsibilities in a dynamic surgical environment.

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, mostly 0700-1500; call every 6th night and every 6th weekend; hours may extend beyond scheduled times on call days (10-12+ hours); weekend call generally 6-8+ hours per day; 24-hour pager coverage on call days


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient evaluation and treatment
  • Serve as first assist in the operating room for coronary artery bypass, all valve surgeries, aortic reconstruction, and aortic arch reconstruction
  • Participate in robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries and DaVinci Robot Thoracic Procedures
  • Perform endoscopic vein harvest and open radial artery harvest
  • Support minimally invasive valve procedures, VATS, and thoracic and fore-gut procedures
  • Manage ICU and step-down unit patients
  • Respond to emergent procedures on the floor, such as chest tube and arterial line insertions
  • Conduct daily rounds and prepare discharge summaries
  • Care for pre- and post-operative patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings


Additional Information

  • Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery required
  • Washington state license highly preferred; IMLC considered
  • Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and DEA certification
  • Clean malpractice history required
  • Three years of cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgery experience required
  • A current Self-Query NPDB report (dated within 30 days of presentation) is mandatory
