Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner for a locum tenens assignment in Washington. This 120-day opportunity begins on Mar 23, 2026, featuring a Monday through Friday schedule, with variable hours and rotating call coverage. The assignment focuses on comprehensive perioperative cardiothoracic care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Provider Type Needed: Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, mostly 7:00 am–3:00 pm; some days may extend beyond standard hours. Call every 6th night and every 6th weekend. Call days often 10–12+ hours, weekend call shifts generally 6–8+ hours per weekend day, with 24-hour pager coverage.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with pre- and post-operative patient evaluation and treatment
  • Serve as OR first assist for coronary artery bypass, valve surgeries, aortic reconstruction, and aortic arch reconstruction
  • Participate in robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries
  • Perform endoscopic vein harvest and open radial artery harvest
  • Support minimally invasive valve procedures
  • Manage VATS and DaVinci robot thoracic procedures
  • Conduct thoracic and foregut procedures
  • Oversee ICU and step-down unit management
  • Respond to emergent procedures on the floor, including chest tube and arterial line insertions
  • Conduct daily patient rounds and complete discharge summaries
  • Manage care for pre- and post-op patients, both inpatients and outpatients


Additional Information

  • Board Certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery required
  • Active WA state license highly preferred; IMLC considered
  • Minimum of 3 years of cardiothoracic/vascular surgery experience required
  • ACLS, BLS, and DEA certification required
  • Clean malpractice history required
  • Self-Query NPDB report (dated within 30 days of presentation) required at time of submission
