Medical Disability Exams (MDEs) are structured evaluations that help the U.S.Department of Veterans Affairs determine disability benefits for veterans. For many veterans, these exams are the first step to accessing VA benefits, providing the medical evidence needed to receive the care and support they’ve earned.
There will be no ongoing patient management, prescribing, or treatment.
As clinicians, you will perform exams in community-based clinics located in veteran-heavy regions across the United States, not in VA hospitals.
Select clinic days that fit your availability.
Consistent, high-earning opportunities with predictable exam volumes.
Focused evaluations without treatment plans, prescribing, or follow-up care.
Help veterans access the benefits and support they’ve earned through their service.
Strong and consistent national demand for exams.
Nationwide assignments for clinicians interested in traveling while earning additional income.
Wellhart, one of the nation’s leading agencies in locum tenens staffing, is proud to partner with Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB) to expand access to Medical Disability Exams for veterans across the country. Our goal is simple: help veterans receive timely evaluations so they can access the benefits and support they’ve earned through their service.

Compensation is paid out by the completed and approved DBQs. Complete and accurate paperwork is essential. There will be a chart provided that breaks down these payouts. An example would be – a patient who has 1 or 2 DBQs completed/approved would pay out $120.00. These ranges scale up based on the number of DBQs in a MDE. Higher DBQ patients offer a higher pay to compensate for the additional paperwork requirements. Travel expenses are all covered at GSA rates.
Initially a DBQ takes about 30 minutes to complete. However, after getting used to the process, providers can often cut that time in half.
It is typically very quick and streamlined, however specific VA required documentation is necessary to begin the hiring process.
It is expected to be 4-6 weeks once all documents are received.
